Arrival in Itanagar and Scenic Drive to Ziro

Your journey begins as you arrive in Itanagar, the lively capital of Arunachal Pradesh. From here, the road winds steadily upward toward Ziro, trading the city’s bustle for the calm rhythm of the hills. As you climb, the landscape begins to shift. Dense forests open into wide valleys, bamboo groves lean gently in the wind, and the air grows crisp with the scent of pine. Villages appear along the way, their wooden houses tucked neatly between terraced fields. It isn’t just a drive, it’s your first glimpse into the slower, quieter world of Apatani. By the time you reach Ziro, the light has softened, the air has turned cool, and the hills seem to exhale their welcome. Settle into your stay and breathe in the stillness — the stories of this land are just beginning to unfold.

Pick-up and Drop-off Points

  • Itanagar Airport is the only designated pick-up point for this trip. The vehicle will not stop at any other location. All participants must ensure they reach the airport before the scheduled departure time, as the trip will commence from there.
  • For the drop-off, Dibrugarh Airport is the only designated point.

Food Options

  • While many communities across Northeast India do consume meat, freshly cooked vegetables are an integral part of everyday meals and are almost always prepared alongside meat dishes or served as a side during lunch and dinner. Vegetarian food is neither uncommon nor unfamiliar in the region.
  • Ziro Valley: Apatani thali with seasonal veggies, bamboo-cooked dishes, and local curries.
  • Majuli Island: Mising thali with boiled greens, bamboo-cooked meat, and Apong (local rice wine).
  • Mon Town: Naga thali with bamboo shoot curries, axone chutney, and local herbs.

Tribes Encountered

  • Apatani Tribe (Ziro): Known for their ingenious land-use system and deep-rooted craftsmanship - from organic lifestyle to intricate crafting.
  • Mising Tribe (Majuli): River-island dwellers celebrated for their warm hospitality, handloom traditions, and unique cuisine.
  • Konyak Tribe (Mon): Renowned for their warrior legacy, intricate tattoos, and rich traditions that reflect strength, craftsmanship, and community life.

Age Limit

  • The ideal age range for this experience is 25-50 years. The average participant is around 30 years old, and the group atmosphere is generally young, social, and easy-going. Participants often enjoy spending time together beyond the day's activities, whether over conversations, music, food, or a drink in the evening.

Accommodation

  • We'll be staying at simple homestays throughout the trip. None of the properties on the trip are boutique/luxurious. They are all clean, comfortable and hygienic and have been vetted by our team!
  • Rooms are shared on a double sharing basis. In case you are a solo traveller, you will be paired up with another solo traveller of the same gender. Please note that almost all of the properties will have double bedded rooms.

  • 45+ days prior to starting date of the trip – 100% refund of the total trip cost
  • 30-44 days prior to starting date of the trip – 75% refund of the total trip cost
  • 15-29 days prior to starting date of the trip – 50% refund of the total trip cost
  • 8 -14 day prior to starting date of the trip – 25% refund of the total trip cost
  • 7 days or less prior to starting date of the trip – No refund
